***Incoming Live feed from the planet Charubah, Olanji Shipyards Headquarters***
***Stardate 12 June 2006***
Gathered inside the main conference hall of the Olanji Corporation's Headquarters are hundreds, if not thousands of dignitaries from around the Hapes Cluster. The sidewalls of the giant auditorium are filled with banners proudly displaying the corporate logo of Olanji next to the trademark gold and blue symbol of the Hapes Consortium. At the front of the room stands an empty grey podium, the noise levels of the crowd rise steadily as they wait expectantly for someone to emerge.
In the hustle and bustle of the backstage area, Lord Dortan Amethius makes one final adjustment to where his glasses rest, running a hand through his hair at the same time. He steps out onto the stage, muttering to himself as the audience begins to applaud. As Dortan approaches the podium he places both hands on its sides, clearing his throat as he scans the crowd, waiting for complete silence before beginning his speech.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the Hapes Cluster, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Charubah and the headquarters of Olanji Shipyards. First created under Lady Olanji during the First Expansion Era, the Olanji Corporation prospered for millennia and firmly established the Charu system as the hub of starship production within our borders. Sadly this prosperity could not endure the ravages our fair Cluster experienced during the final days of the Pal'durath dynasty. While its shipyards lay dormant, the reputation of Charu as an industrial hub for Hapes remained. I remember growing up as a child my mother, once a consultant at the shipyards above Charubah, would tell me stories of the glory days when the skies above our planet were filled with the superstructures of tens if not hundreds of Capital ships. I used to lie awake at night as a teenager, gazing up into the sky at the ghosts of these once majestic technological giants that surrounded our planet, wondering what it must have been like to experience the thrills of designing and constructing your very own starship. I'm sure you are all aware that I have since had the pleasure to take part in such an endeavour; along with a team of the best scientists the Cluster could offer. Much to my regret though it was not at these facilities that this research and development occurred three years ago."
Dortan sighs as he begins to recall those days briefly while looking into the crowd. As he takes out a handkerchief from the front pocket of his suit, he wipes his brow, which is becoming moist under the heat of the powerful stage lights focussed upon his position. The Hapan Lord had become so accustomed to his uniform and it's more formal counterpart over the years that the idea of wearing a suit was still a little awkward and foreign to him but he did his best to hide it.
"Almost two years to this day, the Olanji Corporation was nationalised by His Majesty King James I. Rebuilt from the ashes of its former self, the shipyards above Charubah and its sister planet Olanji were modernised and reactivated for the first time in many years. Olanji Shipyards has the potential to be restored to what it once was, the pinnacle of the Hapan industrial sector. That is its rightful place in Hapan society and though I am aware of its current reputation among some Hapans and also shamed by it, I will not tarnish the name of Olanji any further than has already been done.
But now to the reason you are all here. It is with great pleasure that I announce to you all the beginning of a new era in Olanji Shipyards, an era that I hope will inspire us all to reach for new heights. As of this moment I, Lord Dortan Amethius, former Chief Marshal of His Majesty's Royal Hapan Armed Forces, am taking up leadership of the Olanji Corporation. As Olanji's new Chief Executive Officer it is my hope that we may integrate ourselves and our operations more fully with the Hapes Consortium, for it is by focussing on our similarities and building upon them that we may give each other the strength to endure anything the Galaxy wishes to challenge us with. I aim to restore any faith we may have lost amongst the average Hapan citizen and to establish the Olanji Corporation at the forefront of Hapan starship construction and development. Given time it is my hope that our scientists and engineers may achieve things that even the brilliant minds at Hapes Research and Development can only dream of. Thank you."
A wry smile develops on Dortan's face as he nods in the direction of his Support Corps colleagues. The rest of the crowd stands up and gives Olanji's new CEO a roar of applause as he strides off towards his new office and the mountains of work that await him there.
