“Sallan, Hapes!
The Fountain Palace has mere moments ago announced the appointment of a new Commander of the Chume’doro, the Hapan Royal Guard, best known for its uncompromising dedication towards the protection of the Royal Family and the preservation of the Hapan monarchy itself.
Commodore Lionola Ayun, a highly distinguished and respected naval flag officer, who has also served on the Royal Council on two occasions at the behest of His Majesty, including as Minister of Defence, will take command over the elite fighting force. As her second in command and right-hand man will stand Field Major Yorr Jarent, another decorated military veteran who is held in high regard for his strategic thinking and experience as a ground warfare tactician.
Eldor Aldaris, a mostly unknown and unrecognizable figure even among those familiar with the affairs of the Royal Court, had commanded the Royal Guard ad interim after the ascension of Zayth Kadrim to the Throne of Hapes in 4040, and the subsequent retirement of Tara Tylger from the helm of the Chume’doro. Aldaris, whose status as the interim Commander was never made public, is widely believed to continue serving the Rai’ix Chume as head of His Majesty’s House Guard, a position he has held for the past years. Ayun, as the new Commander of the Royal Guard, is likely to take direct control of the Palatial Guards, whereas Jarent is understood to assuming command of the Chume’doro Commandos. At this time it is unclear if mentions of the Chume’doro’s Investigative Branch being lead by a Kel’dor refers to Aldaris, Beliar Stargazer, the Director of the Internal Security Service under the Ministry of the Interior, or to a yet undisclosed third established individual being kept out of the public awareness.
The induction ceremony of the new Commander and her deputy into the Chume’doro is stated as having taken place over the previous weekend as part of a snap inspection of Chume’doro field training exercises at an undisclosed location within the Interior Region of the Hapes Cluster. As is customary, both Ayun and Yorr were made to demonstrate their proficiency in personal combat as well as their fitness to lead the Chume’doro in the eyes of their own, prior to being allowed to recite their oaths of induction to their King.
While the Commander of the Royal Guard is not considered a post with notable political influence in itself, the role is considered to be of vital importance to the safeguarding of the continuity of the Hapan monarchy and the State itself under any and all circumstances, evident in the way that all Hapan male monarchs since King Starfyre’s reunification of the realm have opted to appoint their chief protectors from among their most trusted and respected friends and compatriots. Given the trust the position both demands and signifies, however, heads and prominent members of the Royal Guard have been known to hold Ministerial posts within the Royal Council, like Lord Steve Rainey did when he served the Crown as both the longstanding Minister of Finance and the head of the Phoenix Guard under King James, and as Princess Tara Tylger did during King Alexander’s reign, leading for a time both the Chume’doro and the Ministry of Intelligence.
Aside from functioning as the protectors of the Royal Family and manifesting the Sovereign’s will across the Hapes Cluster, answering to none other, entrusted to independently ferret out discontent and malfeasance within the government or nobility as needed, the Chume’doro can also be deployed either alongside the Royal Hapan Armed Forces in support of conventional combat missions or as a vanguard force, even used to carry out more discreet foreign operations as instructed.
As such, while the exact role of the Hapan Royal Guard differs from monarch to monarch and it can fulfil whatever role required of it, the appointment of Lionola Ayun and Yorr Jarent into its command strongly indicates that the reigning King, Rai`ix Chume Zayth Kadrim, sees it first and foremost as a formidable martial entity, able to bring to bear its fighting prowess at a moments notice where-ever it may be needed. The appointments can also be taken as signalling confidence by the Rai`ix Chume in the government’s plans to further bolster the defensive and force projection capabilities of the Consortium’s military, across the various service branches.â€
