A spokeswoman for the Lorell Hall, the seat of Hapan government, has held a press conference to release a public statement regarding the upcoming Galactic News Service broadcast, confirming that the Hapes Consortium has chosen not to ratify the founding treaty for the second Galactic Concordiate, resulting in its membership in the galaxy’s foremost neutral coalition as a sovereign memberstate having become annulled.
Asked if the decision was the outcome of any disagreement with the Trade Federation, or influenced by such events as the recent loss of 20 billion credits by a coalition partner in a trading scam, the spokeswoman was fast to deny any such claims;
“Absolutely not. Whatever ulterior narrative is attempted to be ascribed to this decision, we continue to support our friends in the Galactic Concordiate even as our time within the coalition comes to an end. We wish them all the best with their future endeavours, as well as with their plans to continue building the Galactic Concordiate together through its second iteration. For our part, we do hope to be able to preserve and build upon our existing bilateral ties of friendship and mutual respect with all of them, outside of the framework of the Concordiate. Furthermore, our alliance with the Trade Federation, signed into effect on 4037, will remain unaffected.â€
The government has conducted a detailed impact assessment of the decision to remain outside of the Concordiate, and is assuring the public that any foreseeable consequences to the average citizen in the short to medium term are going to be imperceptible:
“There are always uncertainties involved when modelling the future, of course, attributable to any unforeseeable developments in the Galactic Civil War in the long run. In the short to medium term, however, we are confident parting ways with the Concordiate will have no adverse impact on our way of life, on the growth of our economy, or on the regional stability at large.â€
The spokeswoman went on to explain that the decision had been made after careful and lengthy consideration: “When the Trade Federation presented us with the draft to the treaty of the second Concordiate, the Fountain Palace called upon the Royal Council to debate our response. After two months of deliberation with the Royal Council and his closest Advisors, reviewing the matter, His Majesty brought the discussions to a conclusion and informed the Trade Federation leadership of his decision on the matter.
Hapes Consortium remains committed to the stability and security of our region of space, and as such remains interested in collaborating in areas of mutual interest with our former partners and neighbors where appropriate.â€
To conclude, the spokeswoman read aloud the proclamation from His Majesty, Rai`ix Chume Zayth Kadrim regarding the announcement:
“Sallan, and good evening to one and all. It has now been more than two weeks since I announced to the Galactic Concordiate’s Executive Council our intent to refrain from ratifying the founding treaty for the second Concordiate. While I cannot say that it was an easy decision to make, it is safe to say it has not been a hasty one either, with considerable time spent contemplating on it, and I am convinced it is the correct one. Ultimately, this came to be about how we see Hapes and its place in the galaxy. A decision about us, for ourselves. Nothing more, yet nothing less.
Just the same, as we part ways, I wish our former partners with the Concordiate all the best with their efforts for the future, and wish to express my confidence in their ability to find great success in expanding the horizons and boundaries of the Galactic Concordiate further. We will follow with great interest their progress, as we continue on with our work towards the betterment of the Consortium, unafraid of the future and its possibilities.â€
