Template:Government-Minister Vetra Tiberias Colm Kurov is a long serving citizen of the Hapes Consortium, who has served both in the Royal Hapan Navy, reaching the rank of Captain, and the government as an Archon and Minister with great passion, drive and exuberance. From command of the 3rd Hapan Fleet at Dellalt, to managing the Ministry of Industry, the lifeline of the Hapes Consortium, Kurov has always served the crown with honor and pride.
Early Life
Vetra Kurov was born on the planet Kiduin in the Abaem system, his parents Colm Kurov and Elanor Kurov, married and bought a small farm house on the north side of the river Shendago. Kurov grew up in a small community called Faenwe, perhaps twenty families lived in the village and his upbringing was calm. His mother taught at the local school house, his father, was a labourer but before that, he had served as a Lieutenant on a Quasar Battle Cruiser in the Sword Navy. He had retired and settled permanently on Kiduin. Kurov married a local girl whom he had grown up with, Ella Kurov.
They had a son, but his wife died in child birth, and Colm, named after his father but a sickly child, died from an affliction of the heart. Trying to recover from the loss of both his wife and child, Kurov spend years living on his own, trying to figure out his life before he signed up for the Royal Hapan Navy as a capital ship commander, following in his father's footsteps.
Military Career
Early Career
He joined the Royal Hapan Navy in 4030. He was transferred to the Academy, and graduated with distinction, the top of his class. His training team commented on his no nonsense approach to tactics and extremely solid grasps of command and control. He was assigned to the 17th Hapan Fleet under Admiral Zanrike Valendil, commanding the Nova Battle Cruiser, the HRS Andrew, a vessel steeped in history. He learned the art of naval command and rose steadily if not un-spectacularly through the ranks. His career then was solid, and not many seemed to recognise the talent and ability that could be unleashed. He seemed destined for a solid, quiet, career in the navy much like his fathers.
Rising Star
During a general reorganisation of personnel between the fleets, in the autumn of 4030, Kurov was offered a position in the 1st fleet, under then Captain Locke Firecam. His command potential was realised, and the 1st Hapan Fleet became one of the great fleets of the Golden Age. He rose steadily through the ranks; Promoted to Lieutenant at the end of 4031. He took on the role of Fleet Logistics Officer, then Fleet Reconnaissance Officer. In each of these roles, he took a common sense approach to the role, he developed new techniques procedures and systems that are still used to this day. Upon reaching Flag Lieutenant, he had surpassed his father, and became truly at home.
Command
His command potential was realised, by a few, and when the Royal Hapan Navy came to expand and create the 3rd Hapan Fleet, he was offered the position of Fleet Executive Officer, and the rank of Lieutenant Commander under his long time commanding officer, Locke Firecam. This was a new age for the navy, and the fleet grew, when the time came for Firecam to move on, he was made the fleets commanding officer. His greatest joy, being promoted by the King himself. The 3rd Hapan Fleet became one of the most active throughout the Hapes Cluster. He commanded the Hapan Forces in the Dellalt Conflict in 4031. In 4032, The 3rd Hapan Fleet had the honour of escorting the King and the HRS Pride to trade talks with the Galactic Empire.
Retirement
At the end of 4032, Kurov decided at the age of 50, to retire from active service. Although many officers had retired older, some serving until death, Kurov could see that the Royal Hapan Navy was changing, and that he was beginning to be part of the woodwork. He tendered his resignation,intending to retire to Kiduin, and live a comfortable life. However, he was persuaded to stay and devote his time to the Hapan government by Lord Zell Jaak, then Prime Minister of the Hapes Consortium.
Political Career
Archon
Upon his entry into politics, Kurov accepted the role of Archon of the Rifle Worlds. Taking office on Lorell, Kurov set about reviewing the laws of the Rifle Worlds, and commenced a survey of all the systems in the region. Massive development projects were planned, including the redevelopment of Lorell and complete development of planets in the Rebo, Sarr, and Zaa systems. The plans never came to fruition, lacking political allies in the government and the plans were shelved. In the summer of 4033, Kurov accepted a role within the Civil Service, training and developing the next generation of Civil Servants. However, events were to take another twist.
Minister of Industry
Later that fall, the Minister of Industry, Camaris sa Vinitta, resigned from the position, and Kurov was offered to head the Ministry of Industry. He thought long and hard over taking the position, effectively coming out of retirement he accepted, and began a review of the Ministry. The Ministry's portfolio had increased immeasurably. The Gormoth Project had finally woken the Hapes Consortium into expanding the Ministry and upon Kurov taking office, the Ministry was at it's largest and looked forward to continuing to serve the government as the teeth and lifeblood of the Consortium.
