The gas giant Haradan is located in the Hapan system and is the largest ecumenopolis in the Hapes Cluster and possibly even the galaxy. Named after one of the original Lorell Raider chieftains, the planet was uncolonised and largely ignored until the Golden Age when the Hapan Outpost Project ensured the settlement of a research station within the life belt of the planet.

In 4034, shortly after the completion of the Gormoth Project, the Haradan Project was initiated in order to ensure the economic stability of the Hapes Consortium for decades to come. The establishment of hundreds of exclusive city districts, kept afloat in the life belt my massive repulsor-lifts, made the dream of a luxurious mega-city come to life. After its completion and attraction of citizens from all of the Hapes Cluster, Haradan has the highest standard of living in all of the Consortium, as well as the highest average tax income.

History

The planet was discovered along with the rest of the Hapan system in -447 of the Pre-Foundation Age. Due to its size and pale yellow colour, it was named after the corpulent Lorell Raiders chieftain Viro Haradan.

While rich in tibanna gas deposits, the planet remained uncolonised until the Ministry of Industry initiated the Hapan Outpost Project in 4034. As a consequence, the planet received a meager population of 55,000, mostly research staff and their family, tasked with doing scientific experiments regarding weather conditions in the life belt.

In 4034, the Royal Hapan Army in co-operation with the Ministry of Industry started the Haradan Project to establish an ecumenopolis.

Profile

Governance

As is typical of the planets in the Capital region of the Hapes Cluster, Haradan is governed by the Office of the Prime Minister. Due to Haradan's role in the financial world of the Hapes Consortium, many of the city-district governors are representatives of the Ministry of Finance and function as local businesses' link to the Minister of Finance.

Commerce & Industry

As Hapes Prime is considered off limits to most of the mega-coporations and economic powers that operate in the Hapes Cluster, and Terephon is largely devoted to housing the individuals who work on the capital planet and its many moons, the Hapan system was in need of a financial capital.

While Gormoth's vast ecumenopolis became one such financial capital, old disagreements between the populations of the various regions of the Hapes Cluster prevented many for settling there, despite the promise of equal treatment and opportunities. And so Haradan was established in order to provide a central location where businesses and families from all over the Hapes Consortium could come and settle together in close proximity to the government's capital.

While many of the repulsor-cities are residential zones with massive skyscraper complexes housing billions of families, some of the central ones are commerce districts with enormous office buildings and headquarters for some of the Hapes Cluster's most influential and powerful mega-corporation. The relocation of many business operations to Haradan led to a tidal-wave effect with noone wanting to be left behind. As a consequence, space became sought after and businesses were willing to pay extraordinary amounts to settle and stay on the planet and tax income has gone up.

A multitude of palaces have been constructed to house some of the Consortium's wealthier individuals, nobility and commoner alike, and a number of resorts have been established for Hapans who wish cosmopolitan vacations and weekend trips. Below the life-belt of the planet, efforts are also made to gain profit by tibanna gas mining.
