The planet Gormoth is one of several large temperate planets in the Abaem system, the capital of the Interior region of the Hapes Cluster. It has been part of the Hapes Consortium since the discovery and colonisation of the system in 290 during the First Expansion Era. Many famous historical Hapan figures have been from Gormoth, but up until recently the planet was best known for the Gormothian Plague which caused the death of two Queen-Mothers.
In 4033 the planet was designated the most ideal temperate world within the Hapes Cluster for the development of a ecumenopolis. The plan was to make a more successful version of Terephon and provide the population of the Interior region with a new capital planet that could house the richest individuals and serve as a base of operations for the most important Hapan corporations. The Gormoth Project was completed in early 4034.
History
The role of the Abaem system was always to be the capital of the Interior region ever since its discovery in 290, but Hapans did not unnecessarily colonise worlds. Gormoth was left largely alone, with no major development taking place. Apart from a few major cities on each of the continents, Gormoth was mostly devoted to agriculture.
The Gormothian Plague was also a contributing factor to the Hapes Consortium's hesitation in doing any wide-scale development on the planet as the illness had claimed the life of a Queen-Mother. The last monarch of the Age of Queen-Mothers, Queen-Mother Pal'durath VII, was infected with the plague at a young age and lived with the illness for the rest of her life.
During the Dark Age and Hapan civil war, the planet and system were affiliated with the Sword Confederacy and several battles took place on Gormoth and the space around the planet. It was earmarked by the Draconian Union for the noble family of fighter ace Vali Trini'qar as soon as it could be conquered.
After the reunification of the Hapes Consortium in 4000 and the peaceful Phoenix Age and Golden Age that followed, the planet's role returned to that of a quiet agricultural world before House Jaak established Abaem as its seat in 4031. Since the announcement of the Gormoth Project in 4033, the role of the planet has drastically changed, becoming one of the most important worlds in the Hapes Cluster.
Profile
Governance
The planet is located within the Abaem system which is governed by House Jaak. Even so the planet is not the seat of House Jaak and is administrated on a day-to-day basis by the Archon of the Interior from the Gormothian Palace within the James Town city district.
As expected of a planet with such an enormous population, Gormoth has an advanced and large hierarchy for the management of the 169 city districts and the administration of the local population and businesses. Mayors are appointed for each city district, while civil servants fulfill numerous duties such as the maintenance of local architecture, the flora of the planet, traffic, policing and so on.
Commerce & Industry
Part of the objective of the Gormoth Project was to establish a large economic nexus within the Interior region so the businesses with little or no foreign interests would not have to settle on the already crowded worlds of the Lorell system. Financial districts with massive office buildings and skyscrapers devoted to conglomerates and mega-corporations were built in almost all the central city-districts of Gormoth.
In order to preserve the local environment and not tarnish what was preserved during the development of the planet, there is little industry on the planet, maintaining only what is absolutely necessary to avoid excessive pollution.
Terrain & Provinces
The cityscape is divided in to 169 city-districts which function more or less independently of one another. Some districts may be purely residential zones while other are commercial zones, but some tend to mix. The architecture and style of the different districts may vary due to changes in layout and plans which were made some time in to the Gormoth Project.
Some of the southern districts are devoted to prisons and law enforcements, while the capital district James Town lies on the north-western continent of the planet. Numerous defensive installations have been built across the city-scape.
Flora & Fauna
While little of the original terrain remains on the planet, workers from the Ministry of Culture did their best to incorporate the historical Hapan appreciation for nature in to the city-scape. Canals and rivers still flow between the city districts and sometimes between streets and there are many extensive park complexes where local residents can enjoy a walk on a paved path through the grassy field. Tzimernut and Tik trees were imported from other worlds and planted across the planet, especially along canals, in parks and around the residential districts in order to maintain the fresh air and nature-feel of the planet.
Much of the original wild life still exists, living now within the park complexes and areas set aside for them. Flocks of Bliz birds were also imported to the planet and live in harmony with the cityscape, much to the enjoyment of local residents who feel the bird is a symbol of Hapes.
A sophisticated weather control system has been installed in order to provide the planet with varied controlled weather and keep potentially destructive forces of nature at bay.
