Template:Facility-Current The Reef Fortress is an ancient castle built on the famous Dragon's Teeth reef on Hapes Prime. It was originally built by the Lorell Raiders over a period of eleven years as the residence of a powerful Raider chieftain who governed the central continent of the planet. Following the founding of the Hapes Consortium, the fortress was used as the royal residence of the Queen-Mothers until being replaced by the Castle of Per'Agthra in 280 during the First Expansion Era.
History & Role
The fortress was built on one of the highest peaks of the Dragon's Teeth with the intention that the fortress was to be virtually inaccessible by anything other than ship or air speeder. Construction took a long time due to the difficult working conditions that the builders had. It is not certain who actually constructed the fortress, but some ancient historical records hint of it being female slave labour kidnapped from worlds outside the Hapes Cluster.
After the females overthrew their male oppressors and the Hapes Consortium was founded, the Reef Fortress became permanent residence of the Queen-Mother and her successors. While not considered an ideal royal residence, it was eventually deemed sufficient and remained the Royal Hapan Palace until the completion of the Castle of Per'Agthra in Ta'a Chume'Dan in 280.
After this the role of the Reef Fortress was reduced to that of a vacation resort for the Royal Family, though it was rarely used. It became a vault for historical treasures, specifically ones from the time of the Lorell Raiders which the Queen-Mothers wanted kept out of sight. It is also rumoured that some insane members of the Royal Family were kept in the Reef Fortress from time to time.
During the Hapan civil war the fortress was temporarily used as a residence of the Sword Confederacy's leadership following the devastating attack on Ta'a Chume'Dan in 3978.
It remains one of the best preserved facilities built during the Pre-Founding Age and is a Hapan cultural heritage site. While tourists are not allowed to visit the fortress, it can be viewed from relatively close distance as tour boats traverse the Dragon's Teeth.
