Template:Nobility-Box-Male-Gov Dortan Amethius (Lord Amethius of Charu) (Dortan Tarix Amethius Charuah) is a reserved Hapan nobleman. He is perhaps most notable for his founding of the Royal Hapan Support Corps, where he still holds the rank of Chief Marshal. Presently, he is the Minister of Industry and has a seat on the Royal League of Commerce.
Personality/Traits
Dortan has a naturally inquisitive mind and is a perfectionist at heart, dedicated to seeing his work completed efficiently and well at almost any personal cost. Though his years of service have been recognised in many ways, he still feels there is always more to be accomplished, that a greater challenge is out there that he can take on to improve not only Hapes but himself in some minor way. This obsession with work combined with his intensely focussed mind result in a completely disorganised and messy office. His mind can often be jumbled if he has more than one thing to focus on at once.
Socially he could be considered a recluse of sorts, not going out unless it is for a special Hapan function. He is a little eccentric and has a habit of talking to himself or stuttering when nervous or engaged in focussed, deep thoughts. Though his vocabulary is rather extensive he presents a rather awkward/shy yet pleasant demeanour when around strangers, especially women. This is due to his lack of experience in relationships, having usually been too occupied with work to try and bother developing them. Despite this awkwardness however, Dortan has managed to develop himself into an effective leader, learning from his mentors what he could. Despite his rather distinguished status in the Hapan nobility, Dortan remains a humble man who above all else, embraces the ideals of honesty, loyalty and honour.
Background/History
Dortan Amethius was born an only child to Aita and Corron Amethius in one of the smaller cities of the planet of Charubah, an industrial and technological haven that would see him grow up with a natural affinity for scientific achievement. Aita, then a consulting engineer working with Olanji/Charubah Shipyards and working on the production of Nova Battle Cruiser and Quasar class cruiers, showed such dedication to her work that it left her little time to spend with her son. While Dortan was still a toddler, every night his mother would tell him stories about the stars and shipyards that littered the skies above Charubah, filling his mind with all kinds of wonderous ideas about what lay outside of the Charu system, the Rifle Worlds and beyond the Transitory Mists. Corron, Dortan's father and a Professor of Archeology at the Royal University of Charubah, often spoiled his son by bringing him all sorts of small archeological artefacts he picked up on his expeditions.
It was an exciting childhood for him at that stage, he would spend hours throughout the day digesting as much information as he could, completely alone if not for his grandmother. Once he began to attend school though, Dortan realised just how different he was compared to others of his generation. Unlike his classmates he did not share an interest in sport, preferring instead to spend hours tinkering with an array of mechanical bits and pieces. First, he would gradually learn how to dismantle them and then he would spend days if not weeks trying to put them back together again. Of course early on his schooling life Dortan failed miserably much more often than he succeeded, but he quickly caught on to things and had soon developed a keen interest in starfighter and starship technology in particular. However, contrary to what one would think, Dortan was not a model student and found himself on the verge of failing many subjects because of the obsession he had developed with technology, finding new uses for old designs and sometimes creating entirely new designs from scratch.
Upon entering high school, Dortan's obsession (some would even call it an addiction) would take full hold of him. On the first day of classes he vowed that he would one day leave the Cluster and visit every one of the stars his mother had pointed out to him all those years ago. Focussed upon this one seemingly impossible goal, Dortan began to collect all manner of components from ships, vehicles and droids. From the time he arrived home till the time he was eventually nagged into going to sleep, he would work in the family's garage on repairing them so he could spend his weekends selling them off at a small profit. It took him until the age of 24, by which time he had graduated from the Royal University of Charubah with a degree in Astronautical Design & Engineering, to gather enough credits to buy his very own first 'ship': A Y-TIE Ugly that looked as if it were about to fall apart at any moment. Enlisting the aid of two of his friends from high school, the only two he had ever had before, Dortan took another half a year to repair it to spaceworthy status. The curiousity that had lingered within him for so long could now be satisfied and though he had to wait another month just for clearance to leave the Cluster, it was worth it.
The very first planet he visited was Corellia and the exhiliration he experienced upon entering its atmosphere was like nothing he had experienced before. There was such euphoria, such expectation running inside him that he was on a natural high. In some ways the planet reminded him of his own homeworld, but these people were a lot different to the citizens of the Hapes Cluster. Dortan quickly learned that receiving the word of a Corellian was not the same as receiving the word of a Hapan. Disenchanted with the rest of the Galaxy, he decided he would return home... or try to. It appeared that he had severely miscalculated the number of times the Y-TIE would break down and had no parts to repair the ship with, or credits with which to buy new parts. Stuck on an unfamiliar world and with few credits left Dortan grew distraught, roaming the streets and markets aimlessly and desperately trying to find something he could use to get the credits he required. Whether by chance or fate it was in the market district of Coronet City that he stumbled across a fellow Hapan who agreed to take Dortan back to the Cluster on his ship on the condition that he join the Royal Hapan Armed Forces. Upon arrival at the planet Lorell, gateway to the Hapes Cluster, Dortan stuck to his word, signing up for active duty in the Royal Hapan Navy.
As Dortan had grown up in awe of the mighty Nova-class Battle Cruisers being built above Charubah, he asked if he might be able to pilot one of them. His hopes were quickly dashed though as the recruiting officer mentioned the lack of positions available for capital pilots at the time. Though he was dejected, Dortan continued to scan through the list of vacant positions, ecstatic when he found an opening as a Junior Research Assistant in the Royal Engineering Corps, a branch of the RHN. It took several weeks to become settled into his new position, though once he was, he found himself without orders and sent a request for new orders to Naval Command whereupon he was shocked to discover that he was to take temporary command of the REC. Over the months that passed, along with the first two officers under his command, Dortan rebuilt the REC, attracting even more members as each month rolled along. Eventually, at the request of its former Commanding Officer, Trioculus, Dortan was given permanent command of the REC. His career looking as if it could scarcely be moving at a faster rate, the Charubahan rapidly rising through the ranks of the Navy and the REC. Soon he was given temporary command over another two sections of Hapes, Logistics and the Royal Medical Corps, both vital to the infrastructure of the entire Cluster.
Over the next year, his successes would grow but at a reduced rate to that of the first few months of his military career. His personal life however continued to go nowhere. Within the space of his second year in the Royal Hapan Navy, then Commodore Dortan Amethius had helped both the REC and Logistics to grow to such a large degree to allow for the creation of a new, third military division. The Royal Hapan Support Corps, the crowning achievement of his career for a long time.
But the cost of this success grew upon Dortan over time, the responsibility of commanding a division one that he gladly held for just over two years. He had received numerous medals and was even granted nobility during his tenure but still this was not enough for him. Once promoted to the rank of Chief Marshal, and Lord of House Amethius, Dortan found he had reached the pinnacle of his achievements in his career and suddenly it dawned on him. Now 28 years of age and with nowhere higher to advance on his career path, the Hapan noble realised something his father had done so long ago when raising his son: Your job does not define who you are as a person and you cannot hope to live a healthy lifestyle by focussing on your career alone. So it was with some regret that he stood down from his position as Commander of the RHSC (remaining onboard as an advisor to his trusted friend and new Commanding Officer, Tony Lake) to take stock of his life and re-evaluate his priorities.
Recently returned from his quarterly absence, Dortan was quickly drafted into Government service as Archon of the Rifle Worlds. Though he had worked closely with the Hapan Government before, the position never felt 'right' for him once he had accepted it. Slightly disenchanted and with nowhere to go, it was a month before he received the opportunity of a lifetime. The chance to lead a company, but not just any company, it was none other than the Olanji Corporation. Here was a fresh challenge to take up and it was not long afterward that he was once again sucked in, sticking to his mother's old bad habit of deeply immersing himself in his work once again.
The future holds many possibilties for Dortan Amethius but whether all of his hopes and dreams come to fruition remains to be seen...
