Template:Starfighter-Current The Hetrinar Assault Bomber entered service in 4030 as a follow-up to the success of the Miy'til Interceptor design. The Royal Hapan Navy longed to replace the derelict R-41 Starchasers and the Royal Hapan Support Corps was tasked with designing a heavy bomber that could be deployed against capital ships an immobile targets such as enemy facilities and space stations.

While considered slow, the Hetrinar has impressive weaponry and is capable of taking quite a beating before it has to retreat from the battlefield. Due to the lack of hyperdrive, the bombers are attached to capital ships and smaller carriers.

History

Background

After the Dark Age, most of the Hapes Consortium's starfighter designs were considered obsolete. King Andrew had Z-95 Headhunters and R-41 Starchasers imported to over the course of the Phoenix Age to meet the Royal Hapan Navy's demand for modern starfighter technology. The ships were generally unpopular with the Hapan naval officers and pilots alike. The Miy'til Interceptor entered service in 4028 and was considered to be the most succesful post-Dark Age ship design.

As the Royal Hapan Navy finished de-commissioning the Z-95 Headhunters, they wanted to get rid of the R-41 Starchasers as well. The Royal Hapan Support Corps's engineering division was tasked with designing a new type of bomber to meet the Royal Hapan Navy's requirements. Designs were completed in the spring of 4030 and the first Hetrinar Assault Bombers came off the assembly line in the fall.

Service

The Hetrinar Assault Bomber has never been used in combat against any faction hostile towards the Hapes Consortium, but was present during the Dellalt Conflict in 4031 where a fleet from the Royal Hapan Navy was deployed to the Allied Tion in response to the New Anzat Order's aggression against Nikklon Mining Incorporated.

The fighters are sometimes deployed on patrol alongside Miy'til Interceptors or Y-wings, and are attached to most fleets found around the Hapes Cluster. In the case of Nova Battle Cruisers, only half a squadron is assigned.

Ship Statistics

Design & Hull

The design of the Hetrinar Assault Bomber pays tribue to many historical starfighter designs by the Hapan Consortium, as well as its sister-ship, the Miy'til Interceptor. It has a transparisteel canopy glass for excellent visibility in most directions directions (aft view is restricted). Like with the Miy'til, the craft's small size meant that the Hapan engineers had to miniaturise many of its components. The basic hull is short and sleek, coming in at just over 18 meters. The ship has a hull rating of 120.

Armament

Next to the cockpit nose are two heavy lasers. The concussion missile launcher is located underneath the cockpit section. The two proton-torpedo launchers are built in to the wings of the fighter, each equipped with a bay of ten missiles. The missiles are custom-built, featuring a sophisticated tracking system that can overcome the fighter's jamming system.

Shielding

The ship has three CI shield generators, one on each of the wings and one behind the cockpit, which gives the ship a total shield rating of 100.

Engines

With 4 HC X fusial thrust engines, the Hetrinars have a sublight speed of 40 MGLT which is quite slow for a starfighter, but moderate for a bomber. Adding hyperdrive to the future generations of Hetrinar Assault Bombers has been a long-time dream of the Royal Hapan Navy's leadership.
