The Hapes Cluster is home to the Hapes Consortium. The area is a grouping of several hundred stars within the area of nebulous gases known as the Transitory Mists - an impediment to hyperspace navigation which has kept the stars of the cluster mostly isolated from the rest of the the galaxy. The region's high density of stars, nebulae and moons bathes its worlds - especially Hapes Prime - in bright light, which has caused the Hapans to lose most of their night vision over the centuries.

The cluster is home to a number of native sentient species who are all part of the Hapes Consortium. Over the course of the centuries the Hapans have charted the entire cluster and mapped all the various regions. The Lorell system remains the only safe passage through the Transitory Mists known to the public. The cluster is divided in to three major regions in addition to the smaller Capital which consists only of Hapan itself.

History

The Hapes Cluster was colonised around approximately 4500 year ago by pirates known as the Lorell Raiders, who found safe routes in the Transitory Mists via the natural conduit of the Lorell system while trying to hide from Galactic Republic forces. Because the Lorell Raiders would abduct beautiful women along with their plunders, they would take them back to Hapes Prime and Lorell and eventually, due to the isolated gene pool, give rise to the near-human Hapans. The Jedi wiped out the Lorell Raiders, leaving the remaining male population at the mercy of the women who were in uprising. The Hapes Consortium was founded and became a matriarchal monarchy led by a Queen-Mother. The borders of the Hapes Cluster were closely guarded from the Foundation Era until the Second Antiquity Era when they were closed in 2051. They would remain closed until 4024 when the Lorell system was opened for foreign commercial activity and embassies.

Regions

Transitory Mists

The Transitory Mists region is a Hapan name for to the nebulae that surrounds the Hapes Cluster. It is a dangerous area of space where gases and radiation can quickly disable the vessels of people foolish enough to venture in to it. The Royal Hapan Navy devotes much time and resources to patrolling the area around the mist, intercepting potentially hazardous objects such as stray asteroids or comets. The only known gateway in and out of the Transitory Mist is the Lorell system which functions as a natural gap in the nebula.

Capital

The Capital region consists of the Hapan system as is considered to be under the jurisdiction of the Sovereign and Prime Minister Gane Lant. It is the centre of all administration within the Hapes Consortium and also the home base of all military branches. The region is known for its many "perfect" planets and numerous moons.

Interior

The Interior region is located deep within the Hapes Cluster and takes its name from the fact that some of the systems here are the furthest away from the Lorell system. It is governed from the Abaem system by Archon Edana and lies deep within the Hapes Cluster. Some systems are dominated by mining activity, but there is also an ongoing effort to develop several worlds in the commerce worlds for more income.

Rifle Worlds

The Rifle Worlds region is dominated by massive commerce and industry-related activity. Lorell in the Lorell system is the capital of this province and other worlds of interest include Olanji and Charubah. The origins of the name relates to the massive weapons production facilities found in this portion of the Hapes Cluster and also their devotion to the war effort during the Hapan Civil War. The Rifle Worlds are governed by Archon Vetra Kurov.

Rim Worlds

The Rim Worlds region is also devoted to industry in the form of mining and recycling. It is also a hub for naval activity. The region is governed from Dreena in the Alsace system by Archon Lord Alexander Tylger. The region is also home to the Orthwell system which has transformed in to a black hole. The name of the area comes from the fact that the systems border along the part of the Transitory Mists where the nebula is at its thinnest, making them "near" the outside galaxy.
