Template:Planetary-System The Varn system was discovered by explorers working for House Ci'hani in 1455 during the Second Expansion Era. The system is home to the Varno race which initially was not very welcoming towards the representatives of the Hapes Consortium. However, colonies were eventually established in 1463 and the system came under governance of House Ci'hani.

The system's role in the Rim Worlds region and Hapes Consortium as a whole has always been minor, but it remains a popular tourist destination due to the warm oceans of Varn.

History

Age of Queen-Mothers

After making their fortune as minors in the Charu system and later Tzimernut farm owners in the Mathonore system, House Ci'hani set out to explore the Irrea Mist during the Second Expansion Era. Their ships discovered the Varn system in 1455.

They found that the Varno race was capable of in-system travel, but did not have the ability to travel beyond their solar system. The species had established an advanced civilisation on their homeworld Varn, and made colonies on Anacalahad. They initially proved suspicious of the Hapan explorers and refused to let their worlds be colonised.

However, they changed their opinions in 1463 as the Hapans offered to share technology in exchange for making the system a part of the Hapes Consortium. The Varno agreed and eventually joined the Consortium as a contributing race in 1499.

The fresh water from Varno was exported to many worlds of the Rim Worlds region along with several types of fish used for food. The Varno became famous throughout the Hapes Consortium due to their fine engineering skills.

Dark Age

Due to House Ci'hani's support to Princess Da'tan's efforts, the system was aligned with the Draconian Union throughout the Dark Age and Hapan civil war. The status of the system went up after Lady Zalin Ci'hani's appointment to the position of Regent in 3965.

The system was attacked on numerous occasions, but the invaders always failed to conquer the tiny star-system. Further fame was brought to the system due to Tami Ci'hani (also known as Kora Valente) and her talent in the field of music and art.

Phoenix Age & Golden Age

House Ci'hani was reduced to living on their estate on Varn with no real political influence following the coronation of King Andrew. The system's important status vanished little by little, but the Varno race did its best to promote their system.

The holofeature Varn - World of Water was released in 4007, starring Kora Valente as her ancestor Cara Ci'hani making first contact with the Varno. This reviewed the public's interest in the system. Several resorts were established to encourage tourists to visit the system and the system continued to export water and fish.

Kora Valente's death in 4010 was shrouded in mystery and brought about a period of mourning across the Hapes Cluster and many high profile dignitaries visited the tiny star-system for the first time to attend the funeral.
